Celebrating Onam @ Cochin

Happy Onam everyone!

Onam is one festival which is celebrated by Malayalees without any religious constrain in Kerala and across the world. Last year I was with by my dad, mom and Achamma (Dads mom)  in Mumbai and had good Onam Sadya and this year in cochin with grandparents, uncle, aunt and cousin Ananya. Will miss dad as he could not join us because of his job commitments but I had made sure me and mom will keep him posed on all the developments.

It was an awesome trip this time to cochin, from the time I landed here the gifts were pouring like cats and dogs :) It was more than what I have expected. In fact I was practicing with my dad in Mumbai as to how I would be demanding gifts from all and make sure I get it :) … but to my surprise it looked like all were competing as to who would be giving me more ….. I love them all.

Getting ready for temple visit

My grandma was preparing for Onam from last 10 days …. Collecting gifts and stuffs to make various dishes to treat us for Onam Sayda. Thiruvonam day morning is always special, I went to temple with all and get ready for a gala Onam sumptuous feast  ..which includes best chips, kheer, palada …….   and ends with payasam.

Enjoying my Onam Sayda

For my non Malayalee friends sharing the story my dad told about Onam -here is a summary.

Kerala in ancient times was ruled by a demon “Mahabali”  he was suppose to be a bad person but this dude was an exception. In his kingdom Kerala was prosperous and peaceful and the regime was so good that even Gods, felt threatened by his popularity so they devised a cunning plan to overthrow him.

They send Mr Vishnu(another Hindu god) dressed up as a sage(Vamana-A Brahmin boy). Mahabali being a very generous person he agreed to a request of 3 feet of land for the ‘sage’ to meditate.  Soon after the request was granted the sage turned to a mega-monster and covered sea with one and land in 2nd step and had nowhere to take the third step.

As Mahabali never go back on his word, he asked the sage to take the next step on his head and in no time he was pushed to underground, forever. But before that Gods showed some mercy on him and granted permission to return to his homeland once every year to check on his people. And that day is Onam when the whole state is decked up to welcome their beloved king.

The other thing I liked about onam is the tradition of preparing beautiful Athapookkalam (rangoli with flowers) in olden days it was made in lawn outside everyone’s house but now with flat concept cemented bobby’s are decorated. I enjoyed all process and the final outcome.

At the end all the efforts was paid off with a good lunch together with the whole family and loads of gifts. Next year also i will be here to celebrate Onam and will give list of gifts in advance :)

In love with sand and beaches

Again it was the vacation time, this time it’s only me, mom and dad. And this time its was to Puri in Orissa. As any other kid I also love being outdoors and when its sand its double fun. I just loved the time when we were on sand …. a day at the beach is one of the most thrilling things a kid can imagine … a week's vacation there is pure nirvana!!!

We were booked in Golden Sands- Sterling Holidays Resort at Puri an ideal place to enjoy Sea, sand and sun in the temple town.

With King uncle at Sterling Holidays Resort - Puri

The place where we stayed was an ideal place and beach was only for us to enjoy… Sun down with nobody around !!!

I loved the time spent at beach with full of sand around and this is one thing I miss in at my home in Mumbai. Sometime my dad use to leave me alone to play and be with myself and that’s the time I have taken full advantage of being with the nature.. And it feels so ama-azing. Though after that it was his duty to give me a bath and get all the sand out of my cloths and hair.

Sand and more sand

Anisha with sand at Puri

While I was busy playing with sand and enjoying the ocean there were few uncles building some awesome sandcastles with sand but because of the low light pictures could not be taken. One day I also plan to build something like that and showoff to others.

Sand is one of the purest forms of nature and children can explore their imagination. And the word “NO” i learned  recently came very handy.

Dad : Are you done ?
Me : NO
Dad: you are getting dirty..
Me : NO
Dad : Its enough for the day..
Me : NO
Dad: you might be hungry…
Me : NO
Dad Give me whatever you just put in your mouth.
Me : NO
DadOk fine, eat it and get sick.
Me : NO
DadStop saying no.
Me : NO
Dad: lets go back to resort and get some rest ….
Me : NO
…..
.............
..................................

But finally people with strength overpower people with kind heart who only want to play in sand and we head back to our resort and eagerly wait for the next day when I can be back.

Searching for Sand

I can play for hrs in sand but like all good things this also come to an end after our 4 days of stay at Puri were over and it was time we move to Bhubaneswar for the next leg of vacation.

What do you need to take care off when your kids plan to enjoy their Vacation on Sand?

  • Baby wipes are something which will come as handy, You can use them to wipe off your hands
  • Put sunscreen on before you head out.
  • Keep a towel in the car or with you  just for wiping off sands.
  • Pack empty plastic bags for carrying home wet, sandy suits and shoes.
  • A big beach umbrella to give you an oasis of shade.

This monsoon is special though this is my 2nd monsoon but this the one where I got to know rain. And where ever I traveled during this period it was all awesome experience.. be it Mumbai, kerala or for that matter the vacation to Puri with my mom and dad , I got to see colorful umbrellas everywhere.

Under the umbrella (Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh).

I really loved this season where your can run into your loved ones arms and stay close under these colorful umbrellas.. its time where the emotions run higher than weather.

Though ignored for a long time but finally I got my own umbrella which my mom got during one of her shopping spear for me. I personally feel if you love rain you should not be holding an umbrella, but with all this fairy tale colors spread on it….  I just want someone to hold for me and be under it to enjoying the rains.

My Own Hello Kitty Umbrella

I can’t believe when my dad told that some 30-40 years back it use to be only black and no colors added to umbrella… thankfully that’s not the case now. With all the colors added it makes the rain bit more pleasant, with our lovely Umbrellas spread in all shapes, sizes and colors!!

With rains getting over in Mumbai, I will wait for next monsoon to be back with lot more color's in life.

Love you all!!! Happy Monsoon

Talking Without Words

These days the only thing I do is talking..talking and talking. People around me looks amazed, happy and confused most of the time :) but some times I too get confused and think if at all they are getting my point and what i want to say. Its a enjoyable  transformation and the point is when I can pick up things from all then others should also be ready to learn my language…

During the initial first year it was countless ba-ba-ba’s and ma-ma-ma’s but now now i have started repeating words thrown on me and the next challenge was to form my own full sentence..And the first came by calling my mom and ask her to put on my favorite night time CD. People around was so thrilled that they didn't allow me to sleep

Anisha at LULU center - Cochin
.

I am doing good on the learning front as i have also started answering the phone, which is sometimes my toy phone, sometimes house phones and sometimes i use my hand, and carry on a full conversation with wrong nos off-course. Soon i am planning to give my house nos to all my friends as dad has refused to get me a cell..

Me and My Doggy

Waiting for the day when others understand my language and give me what i ask for :) But its ok as its only humans who make mistakes and parents are also human...... i can manage for some more time!!! For now i have my daily conversation with my friend doggy and elephant and have a gala time with sharing our chit chat..

Anisha in conversation with her Elephantdoo

The most favorite word used is No... and i use while shopping too and that's when my mom gets frustrated and my dad supper happy...Dont know the reason yet!!

Recently i peeped into my dad's compute and here's what i found ..... I am sure he is working extra and using some online tool to learn it fast :)

Hearing your toddler talk in her own language is an incredible, amazing thing to watch as a parent. I am ok with the pace its going right now, people think parents should instantly know what baby need. The bridge to the communication is trust the child have with the parents. Just picking up when they cry will let her know that you're there and can believe in you. And with the time just like with any relationship, you and your baby will get to know each other really well and will not need any translators in between :)

At home my grandma (Ammamma) and grandpa(Apoopa) was eagerly waiting for me and I was also happy to see them after such a long break. But as soon as I got in and settled the search started for the person who was not to be seen and the room was all empty … I kept calling all day and thought he has gone to office … but later came to know that I wont be able to see my favorite Krishmama. Later spoke to him in Germany and also ordered for some cool stuffs from there :) the shopping list is something very secret between us so not disclosing ha ha

Enjoying with Nature at Ancestors Place

Later we all went to our ancestors home and spent a day close to nature, the specialty of this place is it has a big river just on the backyard and during rains its all full and overflowing. So this time I decided to learn some fishing with local friends out there, it was a good learning session with and we even got some fishes too. Dad says starting a hobby early in life is always good and with Powai Lake in front of our house in Mumbai, thought of giving a try :)

With the continuous rains and all the time surrounded with these elders, I was getting bored.... that’s when I got a pleasant surprise and saw my cousin Ananya coming down from Chennai. Now the fun starts.. Post that it was all full of toys, tabby and long Ipad rhymes sessions … Ahhhh this is life

My First Train Journey

My First Train Journey -Mumbai to cochin

The First Rail Journey took place on 21 February 1804 at the Penydarren, but friends that’s history :)  Let’s talk of 21st millenium where Anisha Pillai had her first train travel on June 14, 2013- from Mumbai to Ernakulam (Cochin) and happy to share my story with you all lovely friends
I have been to Kurla station (A suburb in Mumbai) a lot of time .. intact from the time when I was very young… might be a few months old. And all the time it was to see off others… it has always fascinated me as there I happen to meet lot of my doggy friends. Here comes the day when I am going to take my first Train to Cochin (Kerala) looking forward for a fun filled journey.

There were 2 tickets booked as 1 of them was in waitlist, but dad still want to go in that as it was a morning train and I can see lot of Konkan as its beautiful in rains. It was a long wait at station as we reach early fearing famous Mumbai rain and traffic. But happy to know what our tickets were confirmed and got a window seat to enjoy the journey.

Finally the train started and that was a pleasant relief (people from Mumbai or travelled from Kurla station can understand what I mean :) )  anyways I was absolutely thrilled to look outside and seeing other travellers settled down with us.

Taking my Afternoon Nap

After a shot nap when I woke up, the area the train was now crossing depicted a very beautiful cross section of land forms with greenery, hills, valley, fog and sometime small villages.

Our Long Long Train

The rail route runs parallel to the Arabian Sea coastline and offers some of the most spectacular views on an Indian rail journey. I have been on this route earlier also while going to Tarkarli  as the Konkan railway intersects national highway NH-17 at many places. Everyone feels I have a sharp memory ha ha

It was only at the halts, I would peep out and see the rush and life on the platform. Sometimes dad use to take me near the door to show places but mom keeps running and screaming what it’s dangerous ...but we chose to ignore :)

Anisha on the train
Dabangg 4 -On the Train

Oh, what a panoramic beauty it all was. When the train crossed over different forms of land, wind, rains and the sounds it made were heard changing. The most fun past was when the train crosses tunnel or crosses over bridges with only water and water below, the sound was of gurgling...
During the day I saw a lot of places and stations, the train would not stop at some and stops at others .. not sure what the motorman was up to. Whenever it stops we all go down to see different shops and I search for some toys :)

At each station I could get a scene of civilization and after that again the nature would take over
By evening people started setting up bed and for dinner and this is the time when i started missing my Didi /Bhaya CD which I use to watch daily at home. But to compensate mom showed some rhymes in her Tab.. All happy and had a comfortable sleep with dad.

Learning time with mom- Rhymes classes

After a comfortable sleep we again got up and continued the same fun and saw a lot of new places. Our train was all like a compact home with all amenities, a look at nature and also human around was like a beautiful paradise packed up as one presentation package for me.

The twenty six hours had just flown by and by noon it was all in a mood of packing up. As people around stared getting down at their respective stations.

I was sad as all the fun was coming to an end but was happy at the same time to see my grandparents …who were also waiting eagerly for me..
